Face Changing/Changing Face : Impressions of China

After much procrastination I have organised an exhibition based on my experiences on the Chengdu Sheffield Artist Exhchange, which I was involved in last year.  It is on until the end of September (2013).

It includes black and white photos, photo composites and an installation of beckoning cats.

Influences
My work is influenced by landscape and nature and places I love.  The works are moody and have lots of texture and various colour schemes.  As you can see from the images above the seashore often features in my artwork because I spend my holidays on the South West coast of the Republic of Ireland.
Although I have been visiting the area around Waterville, on the Ring of Kerry, for alot of years I am constantly inspired by the changing light and atmosphere of the coastal landscape and the distant mountains.

My local countryside also provides subject matter because even though I live in between Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley I am surrounded by woods, fields, and farm land - a typically English environment and natural world.

Method
I collect lots of photographs of landscapes, seascapes and close ups of textures within the landscape, this has been an ongoing process for years. I start playing with paper collages in my sketchbook. I then begin to develop my ideas introducing different types of paper and mixing in paints and ink.  To make my limited edition prints I take fragments of photos and my sketches and using Photoshop I merge these two different artforms.
