Face Changing/Changing Face : Impressions of China
After much procrastination I have organised an exhibition based on my experiences on the Chengdu Sheffield Artist Exhchange, which I was involved in last year. It is on until the end of September (2013).
It includes black and white photos, photo composites and an installation of beckoning cats.

Solo Exhibition at Buzz Gallery
NOW SHOWING IN ROTHERHAM @ ROAR, WESTGATE STUDIOS
My local countryside also provides subject matter because even though I live in between Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley I am surrounded by woods, fields, and farm land - a typically English environment and natural world.
Method
I collect lots of photographs of landscapes, seascapes and close ups of textures within the landscape, this has been an ongoing process for years. I start playing with paper collages in my sketchbook. I then begin to develop my ideas introducing different types of paper and mixing in paints and ink. To make my limited edition prints I take fragments of photos and my sketches and using Photoshop I merge these two different artforms.
Venue
If you are in Rotherham Town Centre, go and have a look at my exhibition. It largely consists of unframed limited edition prints, selling for a mere £30, take one away and choose your own frame. The show is at the Buzz Gallery, so called because you have to buzz the intercom to get in. Full address;
ROAR Art Space, 2nd Floor Westgate Chambers, Westgate, Rotherham, S60 1AN
Influences
My work is influenced by landscape and nature and places I love. The works are moody and have lots of texture and various colour schemes. As you can see from the images above the seashore often features in my artwork because I spend my holidays on the South West coast of the Republic of Ireland.
Although I have been visiting the area around Waterville, on the Ring of Kerry, for alot of years I am constantly inspired by the changing light and atmosphere of the coastal landscape and the distant mountains. My local countryside also provides subject matter because even though I live in between Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley I am surrounded by woods, fields, and farm land - a typically English environment and natural world.

Latest news including China trip
Dear All,
Well it's been a while since I was in touch with my news, that's because I've been here and back again over the last few months.
I have been over to County Kerry, Southern Ireland a couple of times - one of my favorite places especially for inspiring views and lovely light. In September I was part of an Artfest in Ballinskelligs, more about in my next newsletter.
But what about Chengdu, Western China...
Going to Chengdu, China - as one of only two artists from the Sheffield region was so exciting, inspiring and an all round amazing experience. I've never been to a place so hot and humid, and typical of an English person, the weather was the predominant element that influenced my artwork whilst over there. A group of artists including Canadians, Americans, Australians and Harrison Moore and me were taken on a tour of Chengdu and district. The Chengdu Municipal Council were our wonderful hosts and provided hotel accommodation, transport and lovely interpreters and guides. We learned about how they are preserving green spaces in the city, visited famous tourist spots, not least, the Panda reserve and were treated to some delicious Sechuan food.
After four or five days of sightseeing we had the use of a studio to produce two pieces of art. These were to be left there and were exhibited at the Pride International Conference Center which hosted the 2012 China International Friendship Cities Conference (CIFCC). They will then be on show at the International Museum (when it opens) in Tianfu Square, Chengdu.

June/July Newsletter
3rd July 2012
Dear All,
Had a fabulous time salmon fishing in May. The River Thurso was as
beautiful as ever and we saw lots of wonderful wildlife including Red
deer, a Marsh Harrier, and Wheatears. Two delightful grey wagtails
were making love in the Spring sunshine opposite where I was fishing.
Yes, after the hailstorms and snow showers, in mid May if you please,
we did get a couple of sunny days (not so good for fishing).

Anyway my back and legs are aching from all the weeding that needed to be done on
my return from Ireland. If you feel the same then have a break from
gardening or work and take in an art exhibition or get creative at one of my
workshops.
Best wishes,
Yvonne
