Latest news including China trip

Dear All,
Well it's been a while since I was in touch with my news, that's because I've been here and back again over the last few months.

Hope you've all managed to stay happy despite the wet, wet Summer.  What a disaster for the veggie patch, but as Monty Don (Gardener's World) pointed out it has only been a bad summer for gardeners not gardens, as some plants and veg have thrived!

I have been over to County Kerry, Southern Ireland a couple of times - one of my favorite places especially for inspiring views and lovely light.  In September I was part of an Artfest in Ballinskelligs, more about in my next newsletter.

But what about Chengdu, Western China...

Going to Chengdu, China - as one of only two artists from the Sheffield region was so exciting, inspiring and an all round amazing experience.  I've never been to a place so hot and humid, and typical of an English person, the weather was the predominant element that influenced my artwork whilst over there.  A group of artists including Canadians, Americans, Australians and Harrison Moore and me were taken on a tour of Chengdu and district.  The Chengdu Municipal Council were our wonderful hosts and provided hotel accommodation, transport and lovely interpreters and guides.  We learned about how they are preserving green spaces in the city, visited famous tourist spots, not least, the Panda reserve and were treated to some delicious Sechuan food.

After four or five days of sightseeing we had the use of a studio to produce two pieces of art.  These were to be left there and were exhibited at the Pride International Conference Center which hosted the 2012 China International Friendship Cities Conference (CIFCC).  They will then be on show at the International Museum (when it opens) in Tianfu Square, Chengdu.

Two great pluses with the Winter months, no holidays abroad and very little gardening leaving lots more time for arty things.
